CALEXICO — Beer Xperience III, the beer-tasting festival at the Hotel De Anza, was "the best" event sponsored by the Calexico Chamber of Commerce that the directors could recall.

There was one improvement chamber directors said would be made for next year's festival.

"Next time, more bathrooms," joked director Joe Moreno at Thursday's chamber meeting.

He said the festival drew a crowd from all over the Imperial Valley and raised more than $4,000.

"We had people drive down from Brawley and Holtville to attend," Moreno said.

Discussing future business opportunities the chamber heard from Calexico City Councilman John Renison, who briefed them on the results of Tuesday's City Council meeting.

"Calexico is going to get serious about economic development," Renison said. "We want to be able to lure the Mitsubishis of the world."

He said the council will do this by learning from and working with Mexicali.

The council will hear a presentation from the Mexicali public relations firm of Sanchez and Treviño before its next meeting.

Chamber Executive Director Hildy Carrillo-Rivera said even though Sanchez and Treviño is a Mexican firm, it is a member of the Calexico chamber and praised the firm's professionalism.

An issue had been raised at this week's council meeting about whether the board should look at local public relations firms in addition to Sanchez and Treviño.

However, Sanchez and Treviño has been the only firm to schedule a presentation.
