Voice: Bible explicitly states case against homosexuality

March 09, 2001

In response to the recent letter from Dominic Signorotti of El Centro, I would like to set the

record straight on a few things.

First, Mr. Signorotti has confused the words of the church to be the words of men, which they aren't. We the people are not judging whether or not homosexuality is wrong. We KNOW that it is wrong because it says so in the Bible.

Mr. Signorotti failed to show in the Bible where these so-called "hypocrites" are twisting the perfect words of Christ. In fact, there are numerous passages that totally refute his theory of the church's prejudice and hate.

Beginning in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, we are shown God intended for relationships to consist of one man and one woman. In Genesis 2:24, after the creation of man, He says man will "be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Not a man and his husband, or Adam and Eric, but Adam and Eve were the first couple created. 1 Corinthians 7:2-4 says, "… each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife."

Each time marriage is referred to in that passage, the words "husband" and "wife" and "man" and "woman" are used. How can you possibly interpret that verse to mean anything but the fact that marriage is an institution for one man and one woman? In the first chapter of Romans, it talks about man's "godlessness and wickedness," saying, "men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

In Leviticus 18:22 it says, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Saying that homosexuality is both "detestable" and "perversion" clearly shows that it is wrong. In 1

Corinthians 6:19-20 it says, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

The real atrocity is that Mr. Signorotti and others justify immoral sexual acts as rights and judge those who stand for the true word of God.
