IID boom truck burns in yard

March 09, 2001

IMPERIAL — What was initially reported as a structural fire turned out to be an Imperial Irrigation District boom truck that was ablaze.

The service area of the truck was damaged by an 8:22 p.m. fire of unknown origin Thursday, according to county fire Capt. Lon Hettinger.

He said the IID will estimate the damage to the truck, and that the cause of the blaze will be investigated today.

Hettinger said the truck had been idle for some time and that district mechanics were in the process of readying the truck for auction. It was sitting in the district's line yard in Imperial.

He said there were no injuries and no other property was damaged.

The fire reportedly took five minutes to control and 10 minutes to extinguish.
