IMPERIAL — In a wild Pacific Coast Conference shootout, the Imperial Valley College baseball team used a three-run ninth inning to steal an 11-10 win from San Diego City College here Saturday.

Down 10-8 entering the ninth, Gabe Ortiz got the Arab rally going with a base hit, followed by a double from Corey Moreno. A double by Alfredo Vasquez scored Ortiz and Moreno, tying the game at 10-10.

With one out Jake Richter connected on a fielder's choice, scoring Vasquez for the win.

Said Arab skipper Dave Drury: "We had been struggling offensively lately and we were able to come through today. We lost to them 1-0 earlier in the week so we knew this game wouldn't be easy."

IVC was led by Moreno, who finished 4-for-5 (two doubles and a triple) with three runs and three RBIs. Vasquez added four RBIs and went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple.

The Arabs found themselves in a 4-0 hole before scoring three. The sides exchanged runs before San Diego City tacked on three more. IVC answered by scoring four more to take an 8-7 lead.

Jason Anderson pitched 8 2/3 innings before Justin Winburn stepped in. Anderson finished with no decision.

"I think we may have kept him in there a little too long, but he didn't want to come out," said Drury of Anderson. "He was just a bulldog out there. He didn't have great stuff, but he kept us in the game."
