In celebration of the National Wildlife Refuge System's 98th Birthday and Earth Day, the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a day of educational activities for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to reserve a spot in the activities slated from 8 am. to noon Saturday at the refuge at 906 W. Sinclair Road in Calipatria.
Planned activities include wildlife tracks, animal charades, owl pellet dissection, construction of "pre-cut" bat and bird houses, bat presentation, burrowing owl slide show, learning to identify waterfowl by their wings and a chance to sit in the operator's seat of the air boat used to patrol the Salton Sea.
