IMPERIAL — Xen Jones has been named interim principal for Frank Wright Intermediate School following the board's approval Thursday, replacing Don Hopper.

"He has worked for us before and we have 100 percent confidence in his abilities," said Trustee Chuck Jernigan.

Superintendent Barbara Layaye agreed with Jernigan, stating in an earlier interview that Jones had done "outstanding" work when he was vice principal at Imperial High.

Jones will serve as interim principal through the end of the school year. School officials are hoping to have a permanent principal in place by the start of the next school year.

Jones has served as deputy principal at Brawley Union High School and as vice principal at Imperial High.

Hopper, a former Imperial Unified School District, was brought in during the Christmas break to be a temporary replacement for longtime Frank Wright principal John Marshall, who was reassigned within the district.
