CHP investigating accident

CALEXICO — The California Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in which the driver fled into Mexico by swimming across the All-American Canal near here Saturday.

Blanca Acevedo, 27, of Anaheim who suffered minor injuries in the accident, was a passenger in the car. Acevedo was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Information on her condition was unavailable this morning.

According to a Highway Patrol press release, the driver of the vehicle was traveling east on the dirt road extension of Anza Road east of Barbara Worth Road.

The driver turned the vehicle to head up a large dirt embankment next to the All-American. The embankment was steep and the dirt was soft, both of which caused the car to roll.

There have been no arrests in the matter, but the Highway Patrol press release stated the accident is still under investigation.
