Southwest golfers remain undefeated

March 13, 2001

HOLTVILLE — The Southwest High School golf team improved to 4-0 with a 416-451 win over Indio at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort here Monday.

Matt Mouser led Southwest, shooting a 75. Ty Yturralde carded an 80 followed by Trevor Tagg's 81 for the Eagles. Bobby Kirby turned in an 88 and Cameron Bucher rounded out things with a 92.

Southwest will play at Indio at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Brawley 210, Temecula 225

TEMECULA — After two consecutive losses, the Brawley Union High golf team got back on the winning track with a 210-225 win over Temecula High at the Pemeku Hills Country Club here Monday.

Leading Brawley were Milas Russell and Jorden Tucker, both carding 40s. Brian Emmanuelli and Adam Schmitt both turned in 43s and Michael Quick shot a 44 for the Wildcats (3-2 overall).

Brawley will play at 3 p.m. today at Indio.

Tennis

Southwest 13, Coachella 5

Led by its doubles players, the Southwest High boys tennis team downed Coachella 13-5 to record its first win of the season in El Centro on Monday.

Leading Southwest was the No. 1 duo of Randy Lyon and Greg Lyon, winning all three of its sets. The No. 2 team of Joe Kaye and Glen Shummard and No. 3 pair of Ramon Osa and Idrees Suliman also won all three of their sets.

On the singles side the No. 1 for the Eagles, Jared Kaye, had two victories, with No. 2 Bobby Romero and No. 3 Anand Gupta both winning one.

Southwest (1-2) plays at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at La Quinta.

Softball

Central 2, Murrieta Valley 0

MORENO VALLEY — The Central Union High School softball team kicked off play in the Valley View tournament with a 2-0 win over Murrieta Valley here Monday.

Maria Perez pitched a complete game for the Spartans, striking out five and giving up five hits. Perez finished 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.

Central will continue tournament play at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
