Brawley High announces winter sports award winners

BRAWLEY — Brawley Union High School had its winter sports banquet recently, with wrestler Hector Carrillo, boys soccer player Raul Cobian, girls soccer player Trisha Marden, boys basketball players Wheeler Morgan and Richard Santana and girls basketball player Lisa LeBaron all winning their team's Pepsi most valuable player honors.

Jose Reyes picked up most talented wrestler honors with Bucky Leigh winning most aggressive. Jose Gutierrez won the coach's award in wrestling, Tim Dowden the hardest worker and Cesar Mendez the upset of the year award. Mark McConnell and Devin Stills both were awarded most inspirational honors. Dowden and Adam Whittle earned top grade-point average honors with 4.33 GPAs.

On the boys soccer side, Daniel Hernandez was named MVP with Osvaldo Lopez receiving the most dedicated award and David Santana earning most improved honors. Hector Martinez's 3.83 earned him top GPA honors.

With a 4.67, Jack Motter had top GPA honors for the boys basketball team.

Claudia Soto was named girls soccer team MVP, with Aracely Luna and Lynessa Taylor earning most improved honors. Marden was given the top GPA award with a 4.4

For the girls basketball team Brooke Pace was named most inspirational and Kaylin Rubin got the Toni Sullivan hustle award. Marquita Travis nabbed defensive player of the year as well as rebounder of the year. LeBaron rounded things out with the top free throw percentage award. With a 4.83, Pace earned the top GPA award.
