Bodies found in All-American

March 15, 2001|By KELLY GRANT, Staff Writer

The bodies of two suspected undocumented immigrants were found floating in the All-American canal near Drop 2 Wednesday morning.

U.S. Border Patrol agents saw the first body, that of a 25-year-old man, floating in the canal near Brock Research Center Road shortly before 7:48 a.m.

The body of a 19- or 20-year-old woman surfaced in the same part of the canal around 11:43 the same day, said county Coroner's Office Investigator Gary Hayes.

The two, from Guadalajara, Mexico, are believed to have been a married couple, Hayes said, although their identities could not be released until families were notified.

Hayes estimated the bodies had been in the water for one and a half to two weeks.

Officials expect a third body of a person traveling with the couple is still in the water and has yet to surface, Hayes said.
