Wildcats dominate meet

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High School track team picked up four wins in dual meets with Imperial and Holtville at Warne Field here Wednesday.

The Wildcat girls beat Holtville 96-31 and knocked off Imperial 100-28. The Brawley boys downed Holtville 97-21 and beat the Tigers 90-33. The Imperial girls beat Holtville 78-48 while the Holtville boys beat the Tigers 68-55.

Marquita Travis led the Brawley girls, winning three events.

Travis won the 300 hurdles (16.95 seconds), the long jump (14 feet 3.75 inches) and the triple jump (32-10.5).

Silvia Mendez picked up two wins for the Wildcats, taking the 800 (2 minutes 42.54 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:50.94).

Brawley also got wins from Claudia Dominguez in the 3,200 (14:49.94), Lizzette Acevedo in the 400 (1:05.41) and Cynthia Flores in the shot put (33-4).

Holtville's Christina Ruiz took the discus (86-06) and Lindsay Cato won the high jump (4-6). Imperial's Melissa Gaston won the 300 hurdles (55.68).


Boys results were not available at press time.

All three teams will be back in action Saturday at the Central Relays in El Centro. The meet is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Central sweeps Coachella

COACHELLA —The Central Union High School track team swept its meet with Coachella here Wednesday.

The Spartan boys won 70-59 and the girls were triumphant 71-53.

Central will be back in action Saturday when it hosts the Central Relays
