Softball: Tigers pound Scots 21-1

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High School softball team opened its season in impressive fashion, crushing Vincent Memorial 21-1 here Wednesday.

"This win gave the team a lot of confidence," said Tiger coach Kim Witte. "Everybody got to play and it was a good win. We hit the ball well. We're looking to surprise some people this year."

Andrea Thompson and Lindsay Lugo combined to do in the Scots. The pitching pair limited Vincent to one hit and struck out six.

Thompson and Lugo were equally impressive at the plate. Thompson had two hits, an RBI and scored three runs. Lugo contributed two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Andy Fernandez banged two hits and had two RBIs for Imperial.


The Tigers will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. Friday at home against Antelope.

San Diego Mesa 3, IVC 2

SAN DIEGO — The Imperial Valley College softball team fell to San Diego Mesa 3-2 here Wednesday.

Michelle Briseño took the loss for the Arabs (8-6, 2-2 Pacific Coast Conference).

IVC will return to play at 3:15 p.m. Friday in El Cajon against Grossmont.

Calipatria 21, Antelope 3

WELTON Ariz., — The Calipatria High School softball team ripped Antelope 21-3 here Wednesday.

Sarah Erickson picked up the win for the Hornets who will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. Friday at home against West Shores.
