Voice: Klentschy is not part of the solution

March 17, 2001

Life is so full of ironies. Only when a superintendent, in this case El Centro Elementary School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Klentschy, destroys the morale and human spirit of the teachers, tries to bust their union, does he become worthy of being "superintendent" of the year.

Tell it to the many people who got laid off to bring about his wasteful spending of taxpayers' money for a reading program that he decided he wanted at all cost. Never mind that some of the schools scored very well. No, that is not important.

The worst insult of all is when he is quoted as condescendingly thanking the "little people," aka the teachers, for their hard work. He knows little of that. All he does is go find money to bring in new programs to glorify him.

Wake up, teachers! The only way you will get a decent raise is to unite and just walk out and let him come down to the real world and have to spend some time in the classroom, where real miracles happen without praise or gratitude from caring professionals.

If you really are a caring man, Dr. Klentschy, quit mistreating the teachers and pay them their just worth. You are responsible for this mess and are not willing to get off your ego wagon.

I wish the teachers and their union well. Together you should stand, or divided you will surely fall.
