March 21, 2001|By KELLY GRANT, Staff Writer

HOLTVILLE — A Blythe man suffered moderate injuries in a traffic collision Tuesday when a big rig failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Boyd and Holt roads near here.

Rolando Linares, 27, of Blythe was driving north on Holt Road at a speed of about 65 mph as a big rig, driven by Rafael L. Verdugo, 38, of Brawley, was eastbound on Boyd Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As both vehicles approached the intersection, Verdugo failed to stop for a posted stop sign and his rig entered the path of Linares' vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.

Linares saw the rig approaching, applied his brakes and steered to the right. His vehicle skidded and struck the side of the rig with its front end.
