Salton City mobile home destroyed by fire, no one injured

SALTON CITY — A man's home was destroyed by flames Tuesday after a fire apparently broke out in the structure's water heater.

The man, whose name was not available this morning, was in the bathtub of his Marlin Drive mobile home around 12:15 p.m. when he smelled smoke, said Salton City Fire Department Chief Mary Stinson.

The man reportedly then saw flames coming from the home's water heater. Despite his efforts to put out the fire, it spread throughout the single-wide mobile home, Stinson said.

The structure was engulfed when firefighters reached the scene, Stinson said, adding fire crews from Salton City and Salton Sea Beach had the blaze controlled in 45 minutes and extinguished in an hour and a half.

The resident exited the mobile home safely and no injuries were reported.

While the house was destroyed, fire crews saved an attached garage, Stinson said.
