Golf: Vikings stop Calipatria

HOLTVILLE — The Holtville High School golf team downed Calipatria 212-290 at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort here Thursday.

Leading Holtville was Preston George with a 38, followed by J.B. Borchard's 39. Steven Hawk carded a 41 with Caleb Sandin turning in a 44 for the Vikings. James Hawk rounded out the scoring for Holtville with a 50.

Calipatria's low scorer was Eric Somers with a 52.

Holtville will play at Palm Valley at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Vincent Memorial 228,

Warner Springs 316

WARNER SPRINGS — The Vincent Memorial High golf team improved to 2-0 in Desert Mountain League play with a 228-316 win over Warner Springs here Thursday.

Leading Vincent was Rudy Cabañes with a 43, followed by Dominic Jacobelli's 44. Jose Lopez, Jorge Vasquez and Jesus Quesada all shot 47's for the Scots.


Vincent will host Guajome Park at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Imperial 244,

Guajome Park 306

VISTA — The Imperial High School golf team won its second Desert Mountain League match of the season with a 244-306 win over Guajome Park here Thursday.

Leading Imperial (2-1) was Kerry Kjartensson with a 38. Isaiah Gonzales carded a 46 followed by a 51 from Shawn Gutierrez. Lance Havens turned in a 52 and Braulio Carrillo finished with a 57.

The Tigers will play Calipatria at 3 p.m. March 28 at the Del Rio Country Club in Brawley.

Brawley 408, Southwest 416

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High School golf team knocked off Southwest 408-416 in a dual meet at Del Rio Country Club here Thursday.

Adam Schmidt led Brawley with a 78. Brian Emanuelli carded a 79 for Brawley, Michael Quick an 81, Milas Russell an 83 and Adrian Martinez an 88.

"We didn't have our normal squad," said Brawley coach Scott Phillips whose team was missing a couple players. "But we looked pretty good."

Southwest's Ty Yturralde earned medalist honors with a 75. Matt Mouser shot a 77 for the Eagles, Justin Eyer an 86, Derrek Dessert an 88 and Bobby Kirby a 90.

The Eagles will be back in action today at 2 p.m. at La Quinta. Brawley will next play at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Del Rio against Palm Desert.
