Youth sports: Cru opens with five wins

The Cru youth basketball team opened its 2001 season with five unanswered wins.

Led by Robert Christensen and Andrew Grooms, the Cru started its season with a 67-45 win over Allied Gardens Recreation. Christensen finished with 20 points and Grooms chipped in 17.

Vincent McSee hit for 21 points to lead the Cru to a 60-53 win over Jackie Robinson YMCA in its second game.

The Cru's next two wins came over the 17-and-under Yuma Boys and Girls Club. McSee had 19 points and seven rebounds in a 51-43 win in game one. Christensen scored 18 points and grabbed 12 boards in a 53-37 win in the second contest.


Javar Beaver scored 13 points to lead the Cru to its fifth win, a 51-28 drubbing of Aztec of Tijuana.


SEELEY — The winners of Saturday's Imperial Valley BMX Association races here were:

Girls — Alexis Angulo (6), Kiersten Brown (9) and Erika Short (11).

Cruiser — Cameron Lofgren (10), Brian Cannon (15) and Joel Rebik (36-40).

Novice — Johnathan Butler (5 and under), Nicholas Rodriguez (8) and Tristan Roche (10).

Intermediate — Jayson Cardenas (6), Tanner Holt (8), Erick Hernandez (9), Casey Derrick (12) and Byron Studer (14).

Expert — Michael Wolfe (7), Ian Adame (8), Cameron Lofgren (10), Shayne Godfrey (12), Anthony Cowser (13) and Greg Lyon (16).

IV Gymnastics

FALLBROOK — The Imperial Valley Gymnastics club's Amy Millan took first overall in her division at the Fallbrook Gymnastics Classic here over the weekend.

Millan finished with an all-around score of 22.4 to capture first place.

IV Gymnastics' Carissa Acuña finished with 29.8 points in her class. IV Gymnastics' Karen Douglas had a score of 28.7, Kelsey Walk had a 29.9, Rachel Burt a 29.45 and Savannah Nelson a 32.1.
