Wildcats swim past Spartans

The Brawley Union High School boys and girls swimming teams had little trouble getting past Central Union in an Imperial Valley League matchup in El Centro on Thursday.

The Brawley girls improved to 4-0 with a 128-44 shellacking of Central while the Wildcat boys hammered the Spartans 112-43.

Leading the Wildcat girls were Brooke Pace, Lauren Roberts and Jennifer Cardenas with four wins each.

Pace won the 100-meter freestyle in 1 minute, 28.15 seconds, and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.39). Pace teamed with Roberts, Cardenas and Stephanie Luckey to take the 200 medley relay in 2:20.05. Pace hooked up with Marianne Wenzel, Joella Smith and Tracy King to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:47.95).

Roberts won the 200 freestyle (2:30.37) and the 50 freestyle (30.71) while Cardenas took the 200 individual medley (2:48.25) and the 100 freestyle (1:12.90). Cardenas and Roberts teamed with Wenzel and King to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:07.18.


Also winning for Brawley were Luckey in the 500 freestyle (6:59.44) and Smith in the 100 backstroke (1:22.12).

Leading the Wildcat boys were Spencer Kellogg and Robbie Overstreet, who combined for seven wins.

Kellogg took the 50 freestyle (28.77) and 100 freestyle (1:05.63) while Overstreet won the 200 freestyle (2:27.96). The two teamed with Mark McConnell and Jeremy Schmidt to win the 200 medley relay (2:13.83) and 400 freestyle relay (4:44.30).

McConnell won the 200 individual medley (2:54.90) and the 100 backstroke (1:20.55) while Schmidt took the 500 freestyle (7:33.51).

Rounding out the winners for Brawley were Kienan Huber, Bradley Huber, Patrick Tiexiera and Jeremy Schoch taking the 200 freestyle relay in 2:12.76.

Winning for Central was Fabian Amparano in the 100 butterfly (1:13.52) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.13).

Central will swim at Palm Desert at 3:15 p.m. Monday and Brawley will be at Indio at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
