30 years ago — The roar of the super stocks of the Imperial Valley Stock Car Racing Association returns to the fastest oval in Southern California, the Fairgrounds Raceway, as the Imperial Lions Club presents the second night of Saturday racing during the 1971 season.

20 years ago — Changing of Imperial Valley College's nickname "Arabs" underwent its first step as five alternatives were voted upon at Wednesday's Associated Students assembly meeting. The names — Raiders, Desert Winds, Dust Devils, Suns and Scorpions were the top vote-getters from the 35 audience members, which consisted of students and staff members.
