Calexico hammers Vincent Memorial 16-2

CALEXICO — The Calexico High School boys tennis team had little trouble disposing of Vincent Memorial, hammering it 16-2 here Monday.

Leading Calexico was No. 2 singles player Miguel Cota, who won all three sets 6-0. The No. 1 player for the Bulldogs, Chris Cota, also won three sets. Jesus Leon wrapped up the scoring on the singles side with one win.

On the doubles side Vincent only had enough players to field one team.

The No. 1 team for Calexico, Andre Barros and Samuel Garcia, No. 2 Juan Gallardo and Anthony Castallanos and No. 3 Steve Rivera and Jair Hernandez all were victorious.

Both teams play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday with Calexico hosting Brawley and Vincent playing at Southwest in El Centro.

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High tennis team edged Central Union 96-85 in total games after finishing in a 9-9 sets tie in Imperial Valley League action here Monday.


Central will host Vincent at 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Yuma 10, Southwest 8

The Southwest High School tennis team lost a 10-8 squeaker to Yuma High in El Centro on Monday.

Southwest's No. 1 duo of Ramon Osa and John Bonano, No. 2 pair Randy Lyon and Greg Lyon and No. 3 pair of Joe Kaye and Glen Shumard all won two sets.

On the singles' side, No. 1 Jared Kaye and No. 2 Bobby Romero both won one set.
