Mouser leads Eagles to win at first IVL meet

BLYTHE — The Southwest High School golf team drew first blood, capturing the first Imperial Valley League meet here Wednesday.

The Eagles finished with a 399, Brawley was second with a 408 followed by Palo Verde (410), Central (423) and Calexico (495).

Matt Mouser led the Eagles and earned medalist honors with a 71. Also for Southwest Ty Yturralde shot a 78, Justin Eyer an 82, Jeff Mandel an 82 and Derrek Dessert an 86.

Brawley was led by Jordan Tucker (80), followed by Milas Russell (81), Adam Schmidt (81), Brian Emanuelli (81) and Garrett Fargo (85).


Mike Williams led Palo Verde with a 75.

Ivan Haro led Central carding a 77. He was followed by Jake Beard (84), Mario Luna (85), Beau Carson (86) and Fernie Lynn (91).

Phillip Cheng led Calexico with an 88. Ricardo Ortega fired a 93, Edgar Ugarte a 97, Eric Ugarte a 102 and Marco Page a 115.

The next IVL meet will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Del Rio Country Club in Brawley.

Imperial 249, Calipatria 271

BRAWLEY — The Imperial High School golf team knocked off Calipatria 249-271 at Del Rio Country Club here Wednesday.

Kerry Kjartensson led the Tigers with a 42. Lance Havens shot a 46, Isaiah Gonzalez a 49, Shawn Gutierrez a 50 and Braulio Carrillo a 62 for the Tigers.

Calipatria was led by Nicolas Bywater, who carded a 48. Alfredo Jimenez shot a 53, Eric Sommers a 55, Alex Sykora a 57 and Thomas Ciezki a 58.

The Tigers return to action at 3 today against Vincent Memorial at Del Rio.
