Youth sports: Cru wins once in El Paso

EL PASO — The Cru traveling basketball team from El Centro went 1-1 at a tournament here recently.

Vincent McSee scored 13 points to lead the Cru to a 44-42 win over the El Paso Rangers. Javar Beaver added 10 points for the Cru.

In its other contest, the Cru fell to the Santa Fe Warriors 56-49. McSee had 26 points and Chris Hicks chipped in seven.

IVDA swimming

EL CAJON — Six Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swimmers competed in the Heartland Swim Association's J.O. Max meet here recently.

Led by Christian Cervantes, the IVDA brought back five medals from the meet.

Cervantes took fourth in the boys 8-and-under 50-yard freestyle (37.13 seconds) and eighth in the 50 breaststroke (58.19).

IVDA's Anthony Mason took eighth in the boys 8-and-under 50 butterfly (1:01.16).

IVDA's Elvia Vazquez took eighth in the girls 8-and-under 50 butterfly (45.36) and Alexandra Mason took seventh in the girls 10-and-under 50 butterfly (41.95).



SEELEY — The winners of Saturday's Imperial Valley BMX Association races here were:

Girls — Kiersten Brown (7), Angelia Valdez (10) and Samantha Culp (11).

Cruiser — Marty Peebles (12) and Joel Rebik (36-40).

Novice — Johnathan Butler (6), Trevor Adame (8) and Tristan Roche (10).

Intermediate — Jared Robinson (6), Tanner Holt (8), Jarrett Allison (9), Jesse Robinson (12) and Donald Smail (19-27).

Expert — Ian Adame (8), Tony Estrada (9), Cameron Lofgren (10), Royce Culp (11), Shayne Godfrey (13) and Greg Lyon (15).

Toros atop MABL

The Toros ripped the Devil Dogs 16-1 Sunday to remain atop the local Men's Adult Baseball League standings.

Rafael Jacinto picked up the win. His battery mate, Ricardo Garcia, led the offense with five hits and seven RBIs.

In other action the Cardinals topped the Astros 4-2. Scott Hartsock picked up the win for the Cards and the Red Sox knocked off the Yankees 9-5. Alex Ibarra and Ish Sanchez combined to pick up the win for the Red Sox.
