Buyer beware: If you are considering buying an off-highway vehicle, be it a quad or dirt bike, four stroke or two stroke, you should know that some are California emissions-compliant, and some are not.
Discuss this with the dealer. The Department of Motor Vehicles issues the red and green OHV licenses based on the vehicle ID number found on the frame. If the eighth digit in the VIN is a 3 or a C you will be issued a red sticker. Red stickers restrict the time of year you can ride your machine. Red stickers are Oct. 1 through May 31. Riding outside this time frame will get you fined by Bureau of Land Management. The green stickers allow you to ride year-round.
So check that VIN … 3 or C in the eighth digit gets you red … and some people upset and mad. I purchased my quad without this knowledge … and I am seeing red.
