Two performers who stuck out for the Calexico girls (3-3 overall, 3-0 IVL) were Melissa Williams and Alicia Torres.
Williams won the discus with a toss of 102 feet, 7 inches, three feet shy of a school record.
After getting three wins last week, Torres had four wins against Holtville. She won the 400 meters in 63.59 seconds, the 200 in 28.59, teamed with Carla Chavez, Aina Torres and Lily Lee to win the 4x100 relay in 56.44. She rounded out her meet with a win in the 4x400 (4:37.07), hooking up with Lisa Tittle, Aina Torres and Alma Ovando.
Aina Torres had a win in the 800 (2:43.35) and Tittle won the 100 hurdles (18.34).
"I wasn't really happy with how I did. I thought I did crappy even though we won," said Alicia Torres. "As far as the team goes, I think everyone did pretty good, even though this meet was more like a practice. Still, every meet is a challenge. You have to always try your best."
Also picking up wins for the Bulldogs were Carla Chavez in the 100 (13.77), Julia Romero in the 300 hurdles (56.09) and Joana Garcia in the 3,200 (13:29.65). Betty Jo won the long jump at 12 feet, 8 inches and Donna Garnica took the triple jump with a 26-6 1/2.
Winning for Holtville (0-4) were Liz Robinson in the 1,600 (6:05.76), Lindsay Cato in the high jump (4-6) and Hilary Singh in the shot put (26-11 1/4).
On the boys side the Vikings only picked up two wins.
Leading Calexico (3-3, 3-0 IVL) were Nathan Armstrong with four wins, David Paco with three and Alex Maeda and Mikey Padilla both with two.
Armstrong won the 100 in 11.25, the long jump (20-6), the high jump (5-10) and teamed with Paco, Ralph Galvan and Jose Chavez to take the 4x100 in 46.51.
Paco won the 110 hurdles in 15.91 and the triple jump (38-2 3/4). Maeda won the shot put (41-10) and discus (119-11) and Padilla took the 1,600 (5:03.66) and the 3,200 (10:59.06).
Rounding out the wins for the Bulldogs were Chris Ramsey in the 400 (55.54) and Luis Zepeda in the 800 (2:11.63). Zepeda and Ramsey teamed with Joel Amaral and Alfredo Contreras to take the 4x400 in 3:46.83.
Winning for Holtville (1-3) was Santos Guzman in the 300 hurdles (43.59) and Alex Perez in the 200 (24.40).
Said Holtville coach David Strong: "We've had better days than this. Overall I was a little more disappointed than what I anticipated. But Calexico was just the better team. They have better depth and that's what did it."
Both teams will compete in the Eastlake relays in Chula Vista on Saturday.
Central vs. Palm Desert and Desert Christian
PALM DESERT — The Central Union High School boys track and field team won a tri-meet with Palm Desert and Desert Christian here Thursday.
The Central boys finished with 94 points, followed by Palm Desert's 55 and Desert Christian's 10.
The Spartan girls took third with 26 points, behind Palm Desert's 81 and Desert Christian's 57.
Winning for Central on the boys side were Pedro Caro in the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 56.31 seconds, Anthony Sabal in the 100 (11 seconds), Robert Guieb in the 800 (2:10.64), J.D. Gaddis in the 300 hurdles (45.21) and Anthony Hellum in the 200 (23.60). Teddy Glover won for the Spartans in the triple jump with a leap of 38-1 3/4 and Henderson won the high jump at 5-8.
Hellum and Sabal teamed with Jerrel Henderson and Dionte Bell to win the 4x100 relay in 45.26. Henderson, John Valdez, Felix Guieb and Alfredo Gonzalez won the 4x400 in 3:43.82.
For the girls, Central's Dionne Williams took second in the high jump (4 feet), Christina Diaz was runner-up in the triple jump (28-5), Sonia Ramos placed second in the shot put (31-2) and Angela Valdez was second in the 300 hurdles (55.46).
Central will compete in the Eastlake relays in Chula Vista on Saturday.
Brawley tops Palo Verde
BLYTHE — The Brawley Union High School track team had little trouble with Palo Verde, sweeping a meet from the Yellowjackets here Thursday.
The Wildcat boys won 75-48 while the girls came out on top 77-50.
Marquita Travis was the star for Brawley. She won four events, taking the 100 (13.6), 200 (31.9), long jump (15-1) and triple jump (32-1).
Brawley's Sylvia Mendez won the 800 (2:35.7) and 1, 600 (5:47.5). Brooke Burnett won the 100 hurdles (18.9) and 300 hurdles (57.5). The Wildcats' Cynthia Flores took the shot put (32-10). Brawley's Tiffany Lopez won the discus (87-8) and Danitza Sauceda won the 3,200 (13:11.7).
Brawley's Raul Cobian was the lone boy to win twice. He won the 800 (2:11.9) and the 1,600 (4:56.6).
Wildcats Richard Encinas won the 110 hurdles (16.7), John Sabator took the 100 (12.0), Mike Phillips won the shot put (41-9) and Brandon Wellcome took the discus (122-10).
The Wildcats will be back in action April 6 at the Titan Track Festival in Poway.
