Two suspects arrested in home robbery

April 02, 2001|By KELLY GRANT, Staff Writer

BRAWLEY — Two men were in custody today after allegedly robbing a pregnant woman in her home here this morning.

At 12:11 a.m. two men allegedly entered the mobile home where a 24-year-old pregnant woman and at least one child lived, said Brawley police Sgt. John Myers.

Myers did not know how the men entered the home.

At least one of the men had a gun and used it to rob the woman of her cellular phone, rings, diapers and baby bottles, among other things, Myers said.

After the incident, the woman went to a neighbor's house to call police, Myers said.

The neighbor saw the suspects and was able to give police one of their names, Myers said.

One of the suspects, Jose Luis Tadeo-Mejia, 24, of Brawley, was found in an apartment, Myers said.

Items identified by the victim as some of those stolen from her were found in Tadeo-Mejia's possession, Myers said.

A gun was found in Tadeo-Mejia's pocket, Myers said.

Tadeo-Mejia identified his alleged accomplice as Luis Santoyo, 20, of Brawley, who also was arrested this morning, Myers said.

Both men were booked into county jail around 6 a.m. and are being held on $50,000 bail.
