April 02, 2001|By RUDY YNIGUEZ, Staff Writer

Three El Centro men were arrested Saturday on suspicion of rape, assault with attempt to commit rape and conspiracy.

Isidro Martinez Valenzuela, 19; Fernando Manuel Paez, 20; and Michael Quintero, 20, were arrested by members of the El Centro Police Department's investigations and patrol units about 5:45 p.m., according to Sgt. Mike Crankshaw.

Crankshaw said officers received a call from a female juvenile who was distraught. Upon determination that the girl was possibly the victim of sexual assault, the officers responded to an address in the 800 block of South Fifth Street.

Crankshaw said the scene was processed and four men were questioned.

"It was determined three of the four were actually involved," Crankshaw said.

The three men were taken to the county jail, where they remained in custody today on $50,000 bail each. The fourth man was not arrested.

Crankshaw said he did not know if the victim and the men knew each other and said the investigation continues.
