50 years ago — Imperial County's supervisors voted a pay raise on themselves, the auditor and the district attorney, it was announced at their meeting Monday. The 4-1 approval was signed after it was announced the grand jury had authorized the pay increase.

40 years ago — A burglar Saturday stole three guns from the Holt Gun Shop at 1790 W. Main St. in El Centro. Highway Patrolman Bert Holt said the three guns were two .38 caliber pistols and a .45 caliber revolver.

30 years ago — An eight-student panel "speaking for the majority of students in Calexico High School and the district in general" told a group of about 50 persons Friday that the recent dismissal of Thomas Crutcher as principal was not his fault but the result of a faulty communication between the superintendent and the school board.

20 years ago — Calipatria police made two arrests on warrants alleging assault with intent to commit murder in connection with a gang-related incident March 22 in Eastside Park here. Two men were wounded in the fray. Bail for each man was set at $250,000. Five more warrants have been issued and further arrests are imminent, according to Police Chief Frank Emanuel.
