Two people injured in accident at intersection west of Imperial

IMPERIAL — Two people were injured west of here Thursday when their vehicles collided at the intersection of Forrester and Worthington roads, sending one car into a drainage ditch.

At 3:13 p.m., Donna Newton, 58, of Corona, was stopped in the westbound lanes of Worthington Road at its intersection with Forrester Road as a pickup driven by Jose Diaz, 33, of Westmorland, approached from the north on Forrester Road, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Newton didn't see the truck and entered the intersection into its path, the release states.

Diaz was unable to stop and his truck which collided with Newton's car in the intersection, the release states.

Newton then drove into a dirt drain on the northwest corner of the intersection and had to be extracted by emergency medical personnel.

Newton sustained moderate injuries in the collision. She and Diaz, who sustained minor injuries, were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center.


Diaz was treated and released from the El Centro Regional emergency room. Newton was admitted and was in stable condition at presstime today, a hospital staffer said.

The collision is under investigation.
