Spartans win two at tourney

SAN DIEGO — The Central Union High softball team won its first two games in the Madison High School tournament here Monday.

In the first game, Central defeated Clairemont 7-3 with Maria Perez earning the win. Perez pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out four.

In game two, the Spartans shut out San Dieguito Academy 5-0. Perez picked up the win, striking out nine and allowing just three hits.

Central plays La Jolla today.

Holtville splits two

VISTA — The Holtville High softball team split its first two games of the Rancho Buena Vista tournament here Monday.

Lauren Huyler picked up the win as Holtville downed Oceanside 3-1 in its first game. Huyler finished with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Vikings lost their second outing, 2-1 to San Pasqual. The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings because of rain. Nina Rivas got the loss for Holtville (9-3-1 overall).
