Wildcats stop Marian 2-0

SAN DIEGO — The Brawley Union High School softball team picked up a win and a loss in the Madison Tournament here Tuesday.

Led by Audrey Corpuz, the Wildcats topped Marian Catholic 2-0. Corpuz struck out seven and Leighan Sudduth had the game-winning RBI.

In their other game the Wildcats fell 4-2 to Montgomery. Sudduth took the loss.

In Monday action Brawley beat host Madison 2-0. Sudduth picked up the win and Trisha Fleming hit a two-run triple. The Wildcats also posted a 9-8 win over La Jolla. Corpuz earned the win.

Brawley will return to action at 1 today against Clairemont in the tournament's final day.

Central wins two

SAN DIEGO — The Central Union High School softball team picked up two wins in the Madison tournament here Tuesday.

The Spartans knocked off La Jolla 13-3 and Madison 10-0.

Maria Perez picked up wins in both games. She pitched four innings against La Jolla, combining with Monica Sandoval for seven strikeouts. Perez pitched a complete game against Madison, striking out nine.


Vanessa Long had four hits, three RBIs and three runs for Central against La Jolla. Perez added two hits and two RBIs and Michelle Montalvo had two hits and two RBIs in that game.

Melissa Guzman had two hits and an RBI against Madison. Clarissa Maldonado had a hit and two RBIs.

The Spartans will be back in action at the tournament at 1 today against Montgomery.
