50 years ago — Primo Carnera, former heavyweight boxing champion, will headline the American Legion's wrestling card at Stark Field in El Centro next week.

40 years ago — Resignations of two top administrative officials were accepted by the Central Union High School Board of Trustees last night. CUHS Principal Stanley Matzen and Business Manager Asa G. Memmer submitted resignations.

30 years ago — An estimated 400,000 Betty Crocker coupons arrived in the Valley by bus, but Mrs. Toney Belew isn't sure of the exact figure. She and Mrs. Carl Ehlig, her co-chairman of the current drive to obtain a kidney machine for Imperial Valley, have not had time to count the coupons.

20 years ago — Fourteen runs crossed the plate in one inning and eight in another Friday as the Central Spartans shelled the Brawley Wildcats 30-6 in Desert Valleys League softball.

Laura Quintero and Andra Henry pitched for coach Emma Jones, allowing eight hits. Victory left the Spartans unbeaten and atop the varsity pennant race.
