Hannon dominates at Salsa Safari swim meet

BRAWLEY — Imperial Valley Desert Aquatic's Julia Hannon captured five first-place medals in the girls 10-and-under ‘A' division at the Salsa Safari swim meet at the Lions Center here Saturday.

Hannon won the 50-meter breaststroke (45.36 seconds), 100 breaststroke (1 minute 36.74 seconds), 50 freestyle (36.12), 200 freestyle (2:47.93) and 200 individual medley (3:24.74).

IVDA's Alexandra Mason took third in the girls 10-and-under 50 freestyle (38.26).

In the ‘B' division the IVDA's Jennifer Cardenas won the 13-and-over 100 butterfly (1:13.58), 100 freestyle (1:11.05) and 200 individual medley (2:55.56). Natalia Cardenas took third in the 100 freestyle (1:13.46). Renee Rojas took second in the 100 butterfly (1:28.46).

In the ‘B' 11-12 girls division the IVDA's Stevie Wills won the 50 butterfly (39.32) and the 100 breaststroke (1:39.06). She took second in the 50 freestyle (35.06), 100 backstroke (1:30.56) and 50 breaststroke (47.83). Wills took third in the 200 IM (3:11.45). IVDA's Amanda Mason took second in the 50 backstroke (43.87) and third in the 50 butterfly (41.43).

In the ‘B' 10-and-under class, Alexandra Mason won the 50 breaststroke (53.13) and 50 backstroke (46.64). She took third in the 100 freestyle (1:31.37). In the 10-and-under boys division IVDA's Rafael Rojas-Reyes took second in the 50 freestyle (40.97) and 50 backstroke (51.17) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:52.46).

In the ‘C' 10-and-under girls division, IVDA's Ali Hannon took third in the 50 freestyle, Alexandra Mason was second in the 100 backstroke and Elvia Vazquez won the 50 backstroke.

In the 10-and-under boys class, Rojas-Reyes won the 50 breaststroke and 200 IM. He took second in the 100 freestyle. IVDA's A.J. Mason won the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly. mason took second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 50 backstroke. IVDA's Christian Cervantes won the 50 breaststroke, took second in the 50 backstroke and third in the 100 freestyle.

In the 11-12 girls class IVDA's Kristi Emanuel won the 100 butterfly, took second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. IVDA's Mason took second in the 100 and 200 freestyle and third in the 200 IM. Alexis Vazquez took second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly.

In the 11-12 boys class IVDA's Sebastian Fernandez won the 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly. He took second in the 100 freestyle. IVDA's John Cardenas won the 100 backstroke. IVDA's Raul Caro was second in the 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke and third in the 50 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.

In the 13-and-over girls class IVDA's Stephanie Brock won the 100 butterfly and took second in the 100 freestyle. Natalia Cardenas was second in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and third in the 50 freestyle. Jennifer Cardenas won the 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Renee Rojas won the 400 freestyle and 100 freestyle, took second in the 200 IM and third in the 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

Cru win three times

SAN DIEGO — The Cru youth basketball team from El Centro picked up three wins here last weekend.

Robert Christensen scored 27 points to lead the Cru past the San Diego Hoopsters 80-69. Javar Beaver added 14 points to the Cru cause.

The Cru defeated the 16-17 High 5 America team 39-29. Vincent McSee led the Cru with 10 points.

In its third game, the Cru beat the 16-and-under Runnin' Rebels 83-78. McSee led the Cru with 33 points. Christensen and Beaver chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cru also took second place at the 16-and-under Desert Spectacular.

The Cru posted wins over La Quinta (57-32) and Coachella (70-31). Beaver led the team in both games, scoring 16 and 19 points.

In the championship game the Cru lost to Hollywood 62-59. Christensen led the team with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

With the wins the Cru improved its record to 12-3.

With a 13-7 win over the Red Sox, the Cardinals took over first place in the Men's Adult Baseball League.

The Cardinals improved to 5-1. The Astros are in second at 4-2.

The Astros fell from first with a 21-11 loss to the Devil Dogs.

The Yankees picked up their first win of the year, via forfeit.

IV BMX

SEELEY — The Imperial Valley BMX Association held two races here last weekend.

The winners of Saturday's state-qualifying race were:

Girls — Lexi Washburn (6), Kiersten Brown (7), Shelbi Long (9), Laura Jacques (11) and Brooke Elder (12).

Cruiser — Cameron Lofgren (10), Nic Long (11), Jacob McCurdy (14), Justin Lofton (16), Scott Smith (21-25), Nick DiPaolo (31-35), Vince Briant (36-40) and Deane Hamilton (41-45).

Novice — Anthony Nunez (5 and under), Nicholas Rodriguez (6), Curtis Daffern (8), Curtis Grover (10), Dennis River (12) and Scott Richards (28 and over).
