CALIPATRIA — Officials are still investigating the cause of a fire Monday morning that burned to the ground a two-story home west of here.
Calipatria firefighters responded to the single-family home at 6851 Corn Road at 2:08 a.m. and found the home engulfed in flames, Calipatria Fire Chief Chris Hall said.
The roof had already collapsed, Hall added.
The only person in the house at the time of the fire, a woman in her 80s, said she was sleeping when the fire started, Hall said. She was uninjured in the blaze.
About 15 firefighters from Calipatria and Niland battled the flames. The last engine returned to the station around 6:30 a.m.
Investigators determined the fire started in the living room, Hall said.
The investigation is ongoing, Hall said.
