A man was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run after leaving the scene of a three-vehicle collision on Imperial Avenue at Barbara Worth Road in El Centro on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Imperial Avenue, El Centro police Officer Mike Davidson said.

A compact car driven by Jacinto Rios, 30, rear-ended a pickup that, in turn, rear-ended a compact car in front of it, Davidson said. Information on Rios' residence was unavailable.

Rios allegedly fled, driving his car south on Imperial Avenue, Davidson said.

El Centro Police Officer Ray Bonillas arrived at the accident scene, was told about the fleeing vehicle and followed it on Imperial Avenue to State Street, where he stopped Rios, Davidson said.

Rios was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run. He was booked into the county jail, where he remained this morning with his bail set at $5,000.

A passenger in the second compact car, Veronica Pradis, 36, of El Centro, complained of pain to her neck and was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center, Davidson said.

The driver of the pickup, Jerry Murphy, 63, of Imperial, complained of pain to his back but was not transported for medical treatment.
