Herman Joseph Federico

Memorial services are pending for Herman Joseph Federico, 84, of Niland, who died Wednesday in Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.

Mr. Federico was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Philadelphia and was raised and attended schools there before moving to the Boston area. He married Pearl Bailey in Lawrence, Mass., on April 22, 1938.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then returned to Boston.

In 1965 Mr. Federico moved to Compton and lived there for a short time. He later resided in Downey and Huntington Beach.

Mr. Federico retired in 1980 and relocated to the Fountain of Youth Spa in Niland.

He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion 801, the Sons of Italy and the Garibaldi Club.


Survivors include his wife, Pearl Federico of Fountain of Youth Spa; sons, Ronald Federico of Evergreen, Colo., and Anthony Federico of Derry, N.H.; daughters, Dolores Federico of Havenhill, Mass., Donna Challis of Parker, Colo., and Diane Federico-Vogelman of Edwards, Colo.; brother, Anthony Federico of Broomfield, Minn.; sister, Rachael Basilio of Dover, N.H.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.


Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico for Margarita B. Grijalva, 75, of Calexico, who died Thursday in El Centro Regional Medical Center. The Rev. Gerardo Fernandez will officiate.

Burial will be private in Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

Mrs. Grijalva was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Mexicali. She moved with her family to Calexico at a young age and was raised and attended schools there. She was a homemaker all her adult life.

Mrs. Grijalva enjoyed raising her children and would volunteer time with Neighborhood House in helping senior citizens, according to family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jorge Grijalva.

Survivors include her children, Gloria, Genaro and Gilbert Grijalva, all of Calexico, Jorge Grijalva of Turlock and Jose Grijalva of Sacramento; brother, Jorge Borunda of Coachella; sisters, Guadalupe Monge of Calexico and Gregoria Diaz of Imperial Beach; 16 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
