50 years ago — There will be no Huck Finn Day in El Centro this year, according to its sponsors, the El Centro Kiwanis Club. The club was notified by the state Fish and Game Division that because of low stocks, fish can't be provided for the ponds.

40 years ago — The Pioneers' Museum near the California Mid-Winter Fairgrounds near Imperial will remain open Saturdays and Sundays until July 1. The Board of Supervisors authorized an expenditure of $10 a week to keep it open.

30 years ago — Teachers in the Holtville Unified School District are expected to call a special meeting to consider a 3 percent salary raise offered by the Board of Trustees.

20 years ago — One man was critically injured and four more people hurt Friday in four motor vehicle mishaps on the county's roads and recreation services as the Easter holiday began. All but one of the victims was an out-of-town visitor.
