CALEXICO — U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 258.4 pounds of marijuana just east of here Wednesday.
A press release from the U.S. Border Patrol states agents stopped a vehicle about 11 p.m. on Interstate 8.
The vehicle had entered the westbound lane of the interstate from an area commonly used by both narcotics and alien smugglers.
Agents found five duffel bags full of marijuana in the rear seat of the vehicle.
The driver, a Mexican national in possession of a visitors visa, the marijuana and the vehicle were all turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
The Border Patrol declined to release the name of the person arrested because the case is still being investigated by the DEA.
