Yuma man injured when motorcycle collides with pickup

April 19, 2001

WINTERHAVEN — A Yuma man was injured Wednesday when his motorcycle collided with a pickup on Flood Road.

Kenneth L. Keith, 40, of Yuma, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Flood Road north of Ross Road about 1:45 p.m. when the pickup in front of him slowed to turn, said Officer David Nuñez of the California Highway Patrol.

The truck, driven by Raymond Edgar Artist, 81, of Winterhaven, veered into the opposing lane and Keith, thinking Artist was making a left turn, kept driving in the north lane, Nuñez said.

Artist, however, was making a right turn and the vehicles collided in the north lane.

The impact caused the motorcycle to roll, Nuñez said.

Keith sustained a concussion and lacerations to his right elbow. He was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. Information on his condition could not be confirmed this morning.
