This special Saturday edition of the Imperial Valley Press celebrates the day 100 years ago when a little newspaper published its first edition in a mostly barren Imperial Valley.
That newspaper, a century later, is not so little anymore, and neither is the area it serves. The newspaper is one of the largest private employers in the Imperial Valley and the Valley now is home to about 150,000 people.
The Imperial Valley Press in the year 2001 is published six times a week, with a circulation of around 15,000 weekdays and 17,000 on Sunday. This special Saturday issue portends many new ventures to come from the Press, which you will hear about in coming months.
One thing you will see in your April 29 newspaper is our 72-page special edition that we hope you will consider a keepsake. It will feature the Press' front pages from significant days in history, remembrances of readers and stories about our communities and people. We are in the final stages of putting together the edition and are proud of what we have accomplished.
