Thank You: Sugar cane research thanks

April 21, 2001

Thank you for your continued support of the efforts to introduce and commercialize sugar cane.

Yes, I have a dream for Valley agriculture. It includes new crop development and renewable energy. It culminates in the goal of business creation and economic development.

To achieve that goal will require a massive undertaking, involve numerous groups and take a significant investment in time, and money.

The sugar cane research project has enjoyed support from a number of groups and businesses. I would like to thank those who have contributed funds, equipment and technical support. They include Imperial County, Imperial Irrigation District, Holly Sugar, Rain for Rent, T-Systems, Western Farm Service, Advanced Crop Technologies, Desert Valley Ag Services and numerous producers. Their contributions have enabled us to make substantial research progress.

The journey from dream to reality is long, but as the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once wrote: "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." I believe we have taken that first step.
