Marijuana found stashed in field

CALEXICO — In an asparagus field near here, U.S. Border Patrol agents found a different sort of crop stashed in several duffel bags Monday morning.

Agents working near the Westside Main Canal observed six individuals crossing the international border carrying large duffel bags around 4:45 a.m., a press release states.

The people concealed the duffel bags in an asparagus field and returned to Mexico, the release states.

Agents found the duffel bags and the 26 individually wrapped packages of marijuana inside them.

The marijuana was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency office in El Centro.

No arrests were made.
