LOS ANGELES — The Cru took second place at the Beach Cities tournament here last weekend.

The Cru, an El Centro-based youth recreation basketball team, won its first three contests before falling to the Sea Hawks 62-56 in the tournament's championship game. Severino Almerez led the Cru with 11 points in the title contest.

In their first game the Cru knocked off Top Ten 60-35. Javar Beaver led the Cru with 21 points. The Cru posted an 86-79 win over Beach Cities. Vincent McSee scored 38 points to lead the Cru against Beach Cities. Robert Christensen had 21 points and Almerez added 11 to lead the Cru to a 79-74 win over Santa Barbara in the Cru's other contest.

The Toros knocked off the first-place Cardinals to take sole possession of second place in the Imperial Valley Men's Adult Baseball League.

The Cardinals remain in first with a record of 6-2, while the Toros are in second at 5-3.

In other action last week, the Red Sox blew out the Astros 15-0 and the Yankees, on the strength of a two-run home run by John Espinoza, blasted the Devil Dogs 25-3.
