Driver falls asleep, ends up in bottom of wash

SALTON CITY — A woman and her car ended up in the bottom of a wash near here after she fell asleep behind the wheel and ran off Highway 86 Thursday.

About 4:50 p.m., Cecelia Moreno, 37, of Corona was northbound on Highway 86 approaching Lupin Wash when she fell asleep and her car ran off the east shoulder of the road, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Moreno's car struck the perimeter fence and landed in the bottom of the wash, the release states.

Moreno was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley by West Shore Ambulance for treatment of bruises to her neck and chest, the release states.
