Eagles and Spartans split meet

The Southwest and Central Union high school swim teams split their meet in El Centro on Monday, with the Southwest girls downing Central 92-78 and the Central boys edging the Eagles 72-68.

Leading the Southwest girls (3-3 IVL) was Shaylynn Oliver, winning the 50-meter freestyle in 31.28 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 15.38 seconds. She teamed with Stacey Willis, Breezy Boniface and Lindsay Mostrong to take the 200 medley relay in 2:34.18.

Boniface was victorious in the 100 butterfly in 1:29.82. Mostrong won the 100 breaststroke (1:35.24) and teamed with Willis, Desiree Vindiola and Monica Arango to take the 400 freestyle relay (5:14.40).

Winning individually for the Central girls were (3-3 IVL) Kristina Kramer in the 200 individual medley (3:12.19) and the 100 backstroke (1:26.22), Minnie Flores in the 500 freestyle (7:47.42) and Marci Fitzurka in the 200 freestyle (3:04.47). Kramer teamed with Danielle Hewett, Nikki Betz and Charity Oakley to take the 200 freestyle relay in 2:16.58.


On the boys side, Fabian Amparano headed the charge for the Spartans (1-4-1 IVL), winning the 200 individual medley (2:45.63) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.59). He teamed with Joshua Kramer, Marcos Navarro and Frankie Esquer to take the 200 freestyle relay (2:11).

Also winning for Central were Navarro in the 100 freestyle (1:20.27), Kramer in the 100 backstroke (1:22.13) and Ernie Castillo in the 200 freestyle in 2:43.68.

Leading the Southwest boys (2-4 IVL) was Robert Boniface with four wins. Individually he won the 50 freestyle (26.77) and 100 butterfly (1:10.02) and teamed with Ian Snider, John Moffatt and Travis Wilson to take the 200 medley relay. Boniface and Moffatt hooked up with Andrew Mills and Jose Moreno to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Moffatt was the other individual winner for Southwest, taking the 500 freestyle in 7:45.55. Wilson, Mills and Snider teamed with Michael Farmer to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:11.

Both Central and Southwest next compete in the IVL finals May 10 in Brawley.
