Tigers win four-way track meet

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High boys and girls track and field teams were victorious in their quad-meet against Holtville, Mountain Empire and Julian high schools here Tuesday.

The Imperial girls won with 118 points followed by Holtville with 74, Mountain Empire with 28 and Julian with 4.

On the boys side, Imperial had 98 points followed by Holtville's 96, Mountain Empire's 21 and Julian's 12.

Leading the Imperial boys was Gabriel Ibarra, who won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.97 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 41.16, the long jump at 20 feet, 4 inches and the triple jump at 40-2.

Picking up the other Tiger win was Mike Rodriguez in the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 15.19 seconds.

Leading the Holtville boys was Eric Cueto winning the shot put (40-2 1/2), the discus (121) and the high jump (5-2). Holtville's Michael Strong picked up wins in the 800 (2:17.41), the 3,200 (11:39) and teamed with Alex Perez, Carlos Perdomo and Santos Guzman to take the 4x400 relay in 3:50.22.


Perez was the other Viking winner, taking the 100 (11.82) and the 200 in 24.43.

On the girls side, leading the Tigers was Melissa Gaston winning the 100 hurdles (19.26), the 300 hurdles (58.20) and the 400 (1:09.82). Also getting multiple wins for Imperial was Britney Hicks in the 100 (12.43), the 200 (26.40) and the 4x100 relay in 57.45 in teaming with Sarah Henderson, Amy Gonzalez and Naomi Cowne.

Other Tiger winners were Carissa Fimbres in the shot put (28-8 1/2), Katy Leigh in the long jump (14-0) and Jackie Stallings in the triple jump (29-7 1/2).

Winning for Holtville was Rachel Hernandez in the 3,200 (15:56), Christina Ruiz in the discus (91-2 3/4) and Lindsay Cato in the high jump (4-8). Cato and Hernandez teamed with Liz Robinson and Courtney Watson to take the 4x400 relay in 4:50.24.

Imperial will next compete at Calvin Christian High School in San Diego at 3:15 p.m. Thursday and Holtville will next be at the Imperial Valley League finals May 10 at Warne Field in Brawley.
