YUMA (AP) — Scores of military vehicles will roll through Yuma for another day.
A convoy of 1,500 California Marines in about 400 military vehicles left Camp Pendleton for the Yuma Proving Grounds as part of a river-crossing operation called Desert Scimitar.
The vehicles will pass through Yuma about ever 20 minutes through Thursday. Traveling east on Interstate 8, they are to stop for a safety check before proceeding to Yuma where they will continue north up State Highway 95 to the Yuma Proving Grounds.
The convoys include light armored vehicles; high-mobility, multi-wheeled vehicles; and 5-ton cargo trucks.
The actual Colorado River crossing is set for next week near Cibola in the Palo Verde Valley.
