May 04, 2001|By ANTHONY LONGORIA, Staff Writer

IMPERIAL — Beginning May 15, residents here will participate in recycling programs already in place in some other Valley cities.

City officials say the program is being incorporated to meet the city's goal of reducing trash taken to landfills by 50 percent.

Valley Environmental Services will oversee the new program.

Containers for the new system will be delivered to homes May 7-13.

VES will conduct two sessions to provide information on the new collection program and demonstrate the new containers, and will be available to answer questions about its services.

The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall at 247 S. Imperial Ave. A second meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the City Council chambers at 400 S. Imperial Ave.

Starting May 15, the collection schedule shows black containers (trash) being collected on Tuesdays and brown (recyclables) and green (yard waste) containers on Fridays.

For more information regarding the new waste collection system contact Valley Environmental Services at 355-0004.
