Quiet on the Set'

May 04, 2001|By ALLISON MARTIN, Imperial County Film Commission executive director

Hello, fellow movie buffs. I have a lot to cover so I guess I better get started.

The Imperial County Film Commission in conjunction with the Mostly Theatre Co. is planning a local talent show called "Spring Into Stardom."

There will be two age categories and each category has a first-place prize of $500. The entry fee is only $15 per person.

The top three winners in each category will be placed on our Web page,, as a possible extra for films and commercials. The talent show will be June 22. Those interested can pick up an entry form from the Imperial County Arts Council at 230 S. 5th St. in El Centro or the Brawley, Calexico, El Centro or Holtville chambers of commerce.

A deep-pit barbecue will be served the night of the talent show. Tickets will be just $10 in advance or $15 at the door. For more information, contact me at 337-4155 or Terri Novinger at 337-1777.

Congratulations to our own local stunt girl, Shauna Duggins. She has been nominated for two World Stunt Awards for her work in the film "Charlie's Angels." The winners will be announced May 20. Good luck, Shauna.

There has been a name change for the movie "Squelch," which was filmed in Imperial County. It is now called "Joy Ride." A new release date has been set for September.

Don't worry, the Film Commission will definitely plan a fun premiere for "Joy Ride."

I think that about covers it for now. If you are interested in showing your support for the Film Commission and would like to become a member, please call me at 337-4155. Thanks, from the director's chair.
