Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley for Barbara Ann Thornton, 58, of Fairview, Mo., who died April 29 in her home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Frye Chapel. The Rev. Jan Cook of Westmorland Community Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mrs. Thornton was born April 9, 1943, in Westmorland.

She married Floyd Thornton in Yuma on Aug. 25, 1959.

The former Barbara Ann Pate had lived in Westmorland, Brawley and the Santa Maria area before moving to Missouri 10 years ago.

She was a homemaker, raising three children.

She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Thornton, on Aug. 31, 1990; granddaughter Ashley Rodriguez in 1996; and grandson Jeff Thornton in 1998.


Survivors include her husband, Floyd "Jiggs" Thornton of Fairview; mother, Anita Lovell Pate of Santa Maria; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Leigh and Larry Johnson of Purdy, Mo.; daughter, Vanita Lynn Thornton of Brawley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Dean and Doris Pate of Brawley and James Lovell and Jeannie Pate of Oceanside; sister and brother-in-law, Vahnita and John Vasquez of Santa Maria; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Sojourner Foundation, 1153 Orchard Lane, Brawley, CA 92227.


Services are pending for Eugene Wallace Johnston, 75, of Lake Elsinore, who died Thursday at his son's home in Holtville.

Mr. Johnston was born June 6, 1925, in Los Angeles.

He was a retired cattleman in the Imperial Valley, Live Oak Springs, Warner Springs and Banner Springs areas.

He was a member of the Imperial Masonic Lodge No. 390 and Scottish Rite.
