I want to compliment you for printing "Voice of the People" letters. These letters help keep your readers aware of what some of us think about many different subjects. Needless to say, a lot of the letters voice complaints, which is the American right to do. However, this letter voices my appreciation for a Valley business I feel is doing an excellent job for the residents and businesses of Imperial Valley.
The business I am talking about provides a product that all of us simply cannot do without, a product that is the driving force that provides for our everyday comforts, our entertainment, our jobs and almost everything else that all of us are involved in, no matter where we go or what we do. The product I am talking about is electricity. The business that my hat goes off to is the Imperial Irrigation District!
How pleasant this business has made our life here in Imperial County compared to the almost unthinkable hardships forced upon our brothers and sisters in cities from San Diego and clear up to our state capital of Sacramento. Just take a look at some of the differences. Adding in all the charges on the utility bills for electricity, the average total cost per kilowatt-hour here in Imperial County is 8 to 10 cents. San Diego is now charging 25 to 30 cents and they are asking for another increase. Try to imagine what a financial hardship we would all face if our electricity costs were to triple this summer.
